Assistant Engineer

Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a self-motivated engineer, scientist or analyst to join our asset management team.
This opportunity involves working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and scientists to develop asset management and planning solutions for a wide array of water-related projects locally, regionally, and nationwide. The position also involves collaborating with our Asset Management and Digital Strategies and Solutions teams to leverage Hazen’s advanced planning services and data analytics platform to grow our delivery capacity. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply many of the analytical skills used in asset and utility management projects to assist engineering staff on other planning and design projects.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who enjoys working as part of a team, and will have the technical, organizational, and communication skills to:
- Assist in the development of asset management tools and solutions, such as structured databases and interactive business intelligence and data visualization dashboards
- Collect, analyze, synthesize and report on various types of client data
- Perform geospatial analysis of various water and wastewater systems using GIS
- Perform on-site field activities such as field inventory and condition assessment
- Assist with preparation of reports, workshops and presentations for clients, conferences, etc.
- Participate in proposal development
- Develop, maintain, and grow asset management expertise
- Communicate and interact with clients and internal team members
Minimum requirements for this position include:
- BS in Business or STEM
- 0-4 years of experience
- Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel a must)
- Familiarity with water quality and/or water/wastewater conveyance and treatment processes
- Working familiarity using and managing databases and using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or other related tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with a team or independently
The ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:
- BS in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering
- MS in STEM or MBA
- Geospatial analysis skills using ESRI applications
- Data mining or statistical analysis skills
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, R), SQL, etc.
- Familiarity with statistics, advanced data analytics, and machine learning
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate tools
