Provide physical assessments on all admissions. Administer medications in accordance with the provider’s order and the medical administration record (MAR). Provides periodic review of MARs in the group homes to confirm correct administration of medication for MCH youth. The practice area for Methodist Children's Homes (MCH) licensed practical nurses is the MCH campus. MCH licensed practical nurses report to the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

Tasks
  • Perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), and other condition stabilizing interventions.
  • Enhances current programs by coordinating the overall quality medical care of all residents.
  • Conducts thorough physical assessments on clients.
  • Coordinates and manages the ordering and set up of clients’ medications.
  • Coordinates client appointments with the psychiatric nurse practitioner as well as medical providers (clinics).
  • Manage the client's prescribed medications and monitoring patients' responses, and changing care plans accordingly.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, emergencies and acute care referrals.
  • Observes youth and report any changes in physical, social or emotional condition involving level of functioning, changes in attitude/behavior, loss of appetite, weight change or complaints of pain.
  • Document data related to clients' care including assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes.
  • Address safety hazards that may exist in the client’s daily activities, habits and living environment.
  • Develop to the highest degree possible a normalized family-style home environment providing counseling, concern, direction, assistance and support for the youth in care.
  • Consults and communicates with Psychiatrist(s), Physician(s) and/or Nurse Practitioner any changes in youth requiring medical interventions.
  • Diagnose acute or chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological deterioration or life-threatening instability.
  • Conduct client group and individual learning opportunities about health-related topics to include but not limited to medication side effects, physiologic changes experienced by MCH clients and treatment requirements for chronic conditions like diabetes.
  • Performs miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by management.

Requirements:

Knowledge

Medicine - Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures

Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction

English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
