As the Design Manager, the individual selected for this role will increase viewership, use, and support KET programs and services through the design and visual identity of marketing, communications, programs, products and services.  

Our ideal Candidate will:

Lead the creation and continual implementation of a unified brand identity on all platforms, with innovative, modern, on-brand visual design, demonstrating design leadership in support of the agency’s integrated marketing plan.

Manage design projects at all stages, from conception to launch. This includes assigning staff, tracking jobs, overseeing vendor coordination, and ensuring project deadlines are met to advance agency goals. Communicate a compelling, consistent and vibrant design to a variety of audiences (internal/external) informally and at a high level, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Marketing.

Serve as a lead designer and create original artwork on multiple channels such as programming, education resources, advertising, promotion, collateral, sales concepts, digital communications (including websites, videos, social media, etc.), events, trade shows, Visions magazine, corporate communications with integrated approaches across channels, products and programs assuring alignment with overall agency brand messaging, marketing plan, and creative identity.

Supervise employees in the design department, including online, on-air, and print designers. Effectively lead, coach and mentor team. Carry out supervisory duties including participating in hiring, training, planning, and directing work for staff, providing performance oversight and timely feedback, resolving issues, and monitoring attendance and leave requests in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.

Infuse a culture of continuous improvement through ongoing evaluation and strengthening of KET’s design practices and staff professional development. Lead design staff to develop compelling campaigns that support agency needs and strategies.  Identify trends, best practices and opportunities for alternative strategies.

Plan and execute design budgets and track costs. Evaluate research regarding design trends.

Coordinate and collaborate with on-air designers, producers and project leaders across divisions to implement a compelling, consistent, and vibrant identity. Work includes developing brand packages for each new production, weekly KET series and educational initiatives and rebranding/refreshing to keep with current design trends. New or refreshed program brand packages will include but not be limited to: logo, color palette, opening credits, end credits, lower thirds, full-screen graphics, as well as branding and promoting each production through marketing and advertisements on web, print, and on-air.

Report to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, and collaborate with Director of Marketing and Communications, Online Content Manager, and On-Air Promotion Manager to develop consistent, coordinated marketing across all marketing channels.

Demonstrate dedication to diversity in areas of responsibility and install the same dedication in staff.

Successful applicants will have the following minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:

A bachelor’s degree in graphic design/art or related discipline; and five (5) plus years of related experience, including two (2) plus years of managing or supervising teams; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience preferred.

Good design intuition, with the demonstrated ability to design and coach other designers within KET’s Brand Identity Guidelines and Style.

Proficiency with Adobe creative Suite and other industry-standard design software.

Proficiency with pre-press requirements, preparing artwork for various methods of printing, as well as preparing artwork for online publishing.

A proven record of complex, multi-channel campaigns that achieve marketing and design goals.

Proficient in project management, execution and delivery, providing creative direction and tracking progress against objectives. Ability to direct multiple, high-visibility, high-urgency projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills with internal and external stakeholders, staff and vendors.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate and partner internally to identify, prioritize, and deliver on strategic goals.

Prefer strong understanding of and experience in change management, idea creation, employee development, coaching and cross-team effectiveness as well as demonstrated leadership in fostering continuous learning, empowerment, involvement, and opportunities.

Prefer ability to establish an independent view, effectively collaborate in decision-making and motivate others, especially during complex and challenging situations.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license to drive KET vehicles.
