Position Summary

The Pharmacist coordinates the drug distribution and pharmacy activities for the health center. The Pharmacist is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care, 340B compliance, and providing clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient and clinical staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works within the health center’s EHR to locate, retrieve or process the appropriate information required for pharmacy operations and compliance.
  • Complies with all State & Federal Regulations governing the operation and practice of Pharmacy including but not limited to: Dispensing of prescriptions; Record keeping; Drug recalls; Security; and Sanitation.
  • Reviews and interprets providers’ orders for appropriateness and ensures that drugs are appropriately labeled, stored and utilized according to physicians’ instructions. Counsels patients about their medications and maintains an accurate, up-to-date patient profile.
  • Performs essential job functions throughout scheduled hours accurately and efficiently, including but not limited to: data entry, inventory, stocking, dispensing, reporting, preparing drug requests, ensuring that the order is accurate, processing returns as necessary and selling of prescriptions.
  • Verifies the work performed by support personnel, which includes but not limited to: patient drug data entry, drug repackaging, 340B eligibility, and compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Pharmacy Department adheres to all State & Federal laws and regulations as well as BJHCHS standards and policies.
  • Maintains necessary controls and records with respect to auditable drugs and processes.
  • Provides drug information such as dosing, compatibilities and appropriate substitutes to other health care practitioners.
  • Participates in in-service education programs when requested.
  • Arranges to obtain drugs in emergency situations.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by complying with National and State Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency.
  • Participates in clinical programs instituted in the department such as drug-level monitoring, antibiotic monitoring, administering vaccines, floor stock consulting, medication therapy management (MTM) consults and other clinical or compliance services as determined by the Pharmacy Director.
  • Immediately reports any prescription errors to the Director of Pharmacy and assists in the completion of the Medication Error Report Form as appropriate.
  • Ensures that the quality of professional services is maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a current South Carolina Registered Pharmacist license
  • Good standing with South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy
  • Diploma (BS or Pharm.D) from accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Certified through APhA's national immunization program and maintains CPR training through an accredited organization
  • Computer skills required: Pharmacy Management Software; Pharmacy Point of Sale Software; Microsoft Office; Electronic Health Record Software.
