SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Technician is responsible for contributing to Health First’s mission of providing high quality healthcare by ensuring that patient-related information arrives successfully in the EMR and goes to the correct medical personnel. It is essential that medical records are timely, accurate, and complete, and the EMR technician understands the vital role they play in meeting the healthcare needs of the community.

The EMR Technician is expected to display good interpersonal skills as they will interact with colleagues from various departments and executive levels. They are required to carefully listen to their technical needs, understand their problems, and resolve issues thoroughly.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues.


2. Develop and maintain an empathetic and conscientious attitude toward employees/users of the electronic medical record system.


3. Be willing to learn, grow, and continuously improve.


4. Contribute to Health First’s mission of providing high quality healthcare by ensuring that patient-related information arrives successfully in the EMR and goes to the correct medical personnel.

-Distribute incoming and outgoing electronic faxes to ensure critical patient data reaches the correct medical professional.

-Troubleshoot and fix issues with incoming and outgoing medical record information, including faxes, health information exchange data, and more.


5. To offer high quality healthcare, Health First needs a well-maintained electronic medical records system.

-Ensure data is captured and labeled correctly and moved to the right destination in the EMR system.

-Ensure patient data is attached to the correct patient and provide reporting and training to clinic staff and the chief information officer when an error is found.

-Provide timely and accurate reporting to the CIO as required.

-Maintain and ensure quality of files of historical data within patient charts, including digital imaging, labs, patient documentation.

-Collaborate with clinic staff to ensure electronic patient records are input in a consistent manner as defined by policy.

-Collaborate with the quality department to remain aware of changing quality requirements.


6. Willing to network and completes professional development activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities.


7. Attends meetings, training, and other events as requested.


8. Acts in compliance with contracts, laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.


9. Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.


10. Serve as support and backup for Health First’s IT/HIT technician, including but not limited to:

-Reset employee account passwords in the electronic medical records system and computer systems.

-Handle internal help-desk requests regarding the electronic medical records system, after training.

-Perform IT technician duties as assigned, after training.

-Other duties as required by the chief information officer.


Requirements:

EDUCATION:

· Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent required.

· Associate degree or higher preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

· Experience in a health care setting.

· Experience with electronic medical records system required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

· Careful attention to detail is required.

· Ability to assess, organize and plan; demonstrated skills in problem identification and problem solving.

· Ability to exercise judgment and work independently under general direction.

· Ability to work flexible hours.

· Ability to travel to multiple clinics as needed.

· Ability to function as a team member.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, patients, community partners and more.

· Computer literate and capable of operating an EMR.
