Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Ultrasound Tech.


Location: Layton

Hours: PT


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Perform general ultrasound exams on patients.
  2. Ensure patients are properly prepared for procedures.
  3. Ensure all finished ultrasound exams are of high diagnostic quality and all administrative work for each exam is in order.
  4. Recognize and document abnormalities and anomalies.
  5. Effectively and compassionately communicate with patients and physicians.
  6. Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
  7. Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.
  8. Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
  9. Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
  10. Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment.
  11. Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
  12. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma.
  • Degree in Sonography from accredited school.


Experience: Three years of experience performing ultrasounds is required.



Other Requirements:

  • Current ARDMS certification preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, basic physics, patient care, and medical ethics.
  2. Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices.


Skills:

  1. Skill in communication and interpersonal interactions.
  2. Skill in gathering and analyzing patient data.


Abilities:

  1. Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in user-friendly manner.
  2. Ability to calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.
  3. Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.


Equipment Operated: Variety of Sonography equipment including ultrasound machines, transducers, gels, and computer hardware/software.


Work Environment: Combination of exam and laboratory rooms and darkroom. In some situations, may work in operating room. Sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings.


Mental/Physical Requirements: May be standing for long periods and may have to lift/turn disabled patients. Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. Some stress related to dealing with anxious patients.
