Job Description

To transport camp participants to and from camp locations and field trips as assigned and to ensure their safety while on the bus and throughout the trip. This job is responsible for the safe operation of the assigned bus and for assisting in ensuring the safety of camp participants along with camp staff.

Applicants should be comfortable working around school-aged children. Drivers must be able to perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections and required documentation including inspecting and reporting vehicle conditions before and after each trip to make certain all basic safety precautions are addressed. Applicants must have a CDL license with a passenger endorsement, a clean driving record, and be able to pass a background check.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drives the vehicle to specified destinations in accordance with scheduled tours and events.
  • Complies with all traffic regulations. Follows all laws, and all rules, procedures and policies established by Palmetto Preschool to sustain a high quality of service.
  • Maintains a safe operating vehicle. Inspects the vehicle pre and post-trip. Observes gas, oil, water and air levels; plans for appropriate gas mileage according to destination. Checks all mechanical belts, bolts and parts in the engine compartment. Inspects all seats and isles for trash, participant belongings and loose bus parts (arm rests).
  • Ensure that all passengers follow rules of safety.


Additional Information

This position is temporary, starting June 10 and ending August 9. Camp field trips are Tuesday through Friday (4 days a week) and hours are generally between 8:00am and 2:00pm but could start later or end earlier.

Hours will vary, but generally the position will be approximately 20 hours per week.  Driver will be paid bi-weekly on a per trip basis. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Be able to pass a background check.
  • Must possess a valid CDL driver license with passenger endorsement.
  • Must have experience driving a school bus.
