Job Title: Crew Supervisor


EXEMPT: NO

REPORTS TO: Account Manager DAYS: M-F


SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Account Manager, the Crew Supervisor acts as a crew lead and member of a team. The primary source is ensuring job site quality; this includes ensuring that tools and equipment are maintained in good order and the maintenance of a safe and orderly work environment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Job-site quality: Distribute work among crewmembers, oversee tasks, monitor work quality and serve as the crew's liaison to management. As the leader of the team, completes the job in the most time efficient manner while meeting the company's productivity targets.
  • Flowers, shrubs, ground covers, lawns, hedges and other plants: Plant, grade, seed and fertilize; mow, trim and weed; spray. Remove debris, water and make irrigation adjustments.
  • Vehicles, trailer and equipment: Clean and prepare vehicles/trailer for the next service day; inspect and maintain equipment such as: edger's, string trimmers, chain saws, mowers and blower's before use to ensure proper and safe operation; report problems to the Account Manager.
  • General safety: Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Immediate reporting of unsafe working conditions and/or practices to the Account Manager.

COMPETENCIES:

The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices including but not limited:

  • Leadership, reliability, teamwork, interpersonal flexibility, solid communication skills, a customer service approach, and receptivity to instructions and feedback from supervisors
  • Proficiency in the use and inspection of backpack sprayers, pole saw/pruners, hand saws, lawn mowers greater than 36", brush chippers, and of basic sprinkler adjustments and repairs
  • Proficiency in the proper techniques and methods of pruning and shaping trees and other specimens naturally, and of applying fertilizers and pesticides

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Using company vehicles, this position requires travel to transport crews and or equipment; proof of a valid driver license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle report are required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bend and/or kneel up to 10% of the time
  • Lift, reach, carry, push, pull: up to 50 pounds and up to 50% of the time
  • Stand, walk up to 90% of the time
  • Must be able to work outside during all seasons of the year

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually very high.
