Electrical Assembly Technician

Deeplocal is looking for an experienced Electrical Assembly Technician to join our Pittsburgh, PA studio. The Electrical Assembly Technician will support live installations that range from physical structures to electro-mechanical installations. Candidates should be comfortable taking direction remotely, working independently, interfacing with clients and other vendors, and handling a broad range of on-the-ground technical support challenges.

This hands-on fabrication position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced fabrication shop, and understands that attention to detail is of utmost importance, even when multiple projects are being produced simultaneously. Candidates will have an opportunity to work on original, often highly visible, projects alongside a talented team of fabricators, designers, engineers, and technologists.

While this position has a focus on electrical assembly, we are looking for someone who is flexible and can seamlessly transition to performing other required tasks in the shop, based on the current needs of the business.

Responsibilities

• Electrical Assembly: Capable of highly-detailed assembly and layout of low voltage electrical wiring and power distribution systems. Competent with soldering and crimping. Familiarity with electrical circuit diagrams and schematics and troubleshooting of AC and DC circuits.
• Testing: Build robust testing environments, and perform accurate, controlled testing procedures.
• Installations: Travel for installations and provide on-site building and support of interactive exhibits.
• Electrical Workshop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and orderly workshop.
• Inventory: Accurately track component inventory. Make appropriate recommendations for facility improvements.
• Track and manage time and expenses.
• Fabrication: Engage in detailed, high quality fabrication of custom components in metal, wood, and plastics. 
• Demonstrated problem solving skills: Deeplocal makes first of its kind interactive exhibits. Often there are unknowns in the design and fabrication of components that require problem solving and communication with different disciplines from the engineering and creative teams.
• Maintain Equipment and Supplies: Inspect the work area and machines that were used during the day prior to leaving at the end of each shift. Order new parts and supplies as necessary, and with the approval of leadership.
• Collaborate Effectively: Work within a team structure to ensure that project requirements are met and that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Requirements:

• 3+ years hands on experience in the technical support of physical and electro-mechanical disciplines. 
• Familiarity with troubleshooting and repair of electrical/mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with IT and networking systems. Capable of configuring network hardware and software
• Experience designing and assembling electrical project boxes to support AV, lighting and electro-mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with circuit diagrams and schematics
• Knowledge of best practices and compliance with electrical standards. 
• Familiarity with AC and DC electrical systems.
• Candidates must be comfortable in occasional high stress situations which require creative troubleshooting in low resourced environments
• Candidates must possess good written and verbal communication skills
• Creative thinking skills 
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity, and able to operate without a clear roadmap or explicit direction
• Excited by new challenges and never-been-done-before work
• Demonstrated ability to follow quality and safety standards
• Understanding of cut lists and blueprint specifications
• Ability to read measuring tools and other shop tools
• Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment

• Fabrication: Detailed, high quality fabrication of custom components in metal, wood, and plastics.  
• The ability to read drawings and navigate CAD models to aid in the production of exhibits.  Candidates will be expected to learn CAD and support CNC and digital fabrication if they have no existing experience.
• Familiar with CAD and ECAD software (Solidworks, Rhino, Altium)
• Competent with digital fabrication technologies such CAM, CNC routing, laser cutting, 3d printing, etc.
• Familiar with programming of microcontrollers such as Arduinos and Teensy

Location

The Electrical Assembly Technician is an in-person position.  While this position has core weekday/daytime hours of work, some evening and weekend work may be required for projects and installations.

Travel, nationally and sometimes internationally, is a requirement of the role and averages about 25% of the time. Travel may also be required in the evening and on weekends. The Electrical Assembly Technician must maintain appropriate credentials to travel internationally.
