NextGen-iBE-Academy is seeking a superintendent/principal to lead the launch of our first public charter school on the west side of Houston. We will be a 6-12 academy focused on international business. Our mission is to develop collaborative, mindful leaders through experiential learning focused on business for the purpose of creating local impact via global connections. We are seeking a leader that is aligned to the belief that students can “BE” anything they want.

The Opportunity:

The Founding Superintendent/Principal is responsible for the development and execution of the school model, all educational, operational, financial, managerial, and programmatic aspects of the organization. The Superintendent/Principal is responsible for hiring and overseeing all teachers and school staff. The Superintendent/Principal is the highest academic leader whose primary objective is to set high expectations for all students and maintain the integrity of the culture of the school. The Superintendent/Principal will ensure the goals of the school are met by supervising every aspect of the school’s daily instruction and functions. The Superintendent/Principal is primarily responsible for reaching the enrollment projections set and promoting the organization’s fundraising goals and meeting the funding targets. In addition, the Superintendent/Principal will manage highly important relations with the Texas Education Agency and governmental officials and is responsible for ensuring the school is compliant with the county, city, state, and national regulations. The Superintendent/Principal will set the example for all students, teachers, and staff to create a deeply mindful, collaborative, and leadership culture.

Responsibilities:

Academic:

1. Works with the instructional leadership team to develop and implement the academic model and instructional strategies.

2. Supports school leaders to reach their school priorities in line with the mission and vision of NextGen-iBEA.

3. Works with school leaders and staff to create and carry out long-term for curriculum, assessment, and school improvement.

4. Leads long-term and annual school planning.

5. Supports the Special Populations Coordinator in creating high quality programming for special populations students.

6. Develops, maintains, and sets school performance objectives with decision-making teams and uses records necessary to show campus progress. Non-Profit Sponsoring Entity: NextGen Global Leadership Academies

7. Ensures that activities that are related to school program outcomes and use data to take responsive action.

8.Consistently consults with school-level committees about the planning processes, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the school’s educational programs.

Operations/Finance:

1.Recruits and hire high quality faculty and staff members.

2. Oversees, implements, and evaluates all programs- ie. extra curricular, co-curricular, athletics, afterschool programs, mentorship, summer cultural camp etc.

3.Supports the development of operational systems and processes.

4.Determines needs for staffing including recruiting, hiring, supervising, and assessing instructional personnel (Dean, Director of Finance, Special Populations Coordinator, Community Engagement Coordinator, Counselor, Instructional Coach)

5. Collaborates with decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.

6. Supervises state assessment compliance and procedures.

7. Manages school finances to ensure the school is operating within the agreed budget and providing consistent reports to the Board of Directors with the Director of Finance.

8. Supervises all contractors and consultants to ensure the timeline and execution of all agreements and services.

9. Manages use of facilities and supervising the maintenance of the facilities to ensure a safe learning environment.

10. Maintains records such as- attendance records, student assessment scores, student IEPs, any federal, state, and local records needed for compliance of the operation of a school, etc.

11. Implements procedures and policies of the school set forth by the Board of Directors, such as the student code of conduct.

12. Creates and enforces school rules and regulations.

13. Conducts conferences about student and school matters with parents, students, and staff.

14. Sustains knowledge of charter school laws, city facility regulations, and grant requirements from federal or philanthropic associations.

15. Ensures the projections of enrollment are met and the state lottery procedures meet the requirements.

Board governance/stakeholder relationships:

1. Participates in Board meetings and its committees.

2. Develops relationships with stakeholders to create and execute the school’s education plan.

3. Ensures the efforts of NextGen are widely known by developing relations with local, regional, and national foundations and community development agencies so that proper support is generated for NextGen. Non-Profit Sponsoring Entity: NextGen Global Leadership Academies

4. Represents NextGen at governmental meetings, local community board meetings, and professional conferences.


Qualifications:

1. Masters degree from an accredited university, preferably in education.

2. Valid Texas principal certification, valid Texas superintendent certification preferred.

3. Working knowledge of how a school district functions and the unique characteristics of public charter schools.

4. 3-5 years as a high-quality classroom teacher or supervisor

5. 3-5 years serving as a principal in a high performing school with a similar student population.

6. A proven track record of managing high-quality staff members and leaders to achieve school and student goals

7. Noteworthy leadership and management skills, particularly relating to goal setting, promoting collaboration among staff, building strong teams, and managing conflict.

8. An entrepreneurial drive and proven success in launching initiatives, building a program, department, or organization.

9. Deep commitment to improving student outcomes through coaching staff and teachers.

10. The flexibility needed to accommodate the breadth and depth of various responsibilities.

11. Ability to build a strong positive culture among the staff, students, and community you are serving.
