A Brief Overview
The Fiber Accountant will be responsible for managing financial activities related to all fiber projects. This role involves handling work orders, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with grant requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in accounting within the telecommunications or fiber optics industry.
What you will do
- Maintain subsidiary records for construction and retirement work in progress, close work orders and is responsible for inventory of work orders, special equipment summaries, and maintaining records to update and maintain the cooperative fiber plant records.
- Review all fiber work orders for construction accounting accuracy to ensure proper work order identification, account coding, budget assignment, inclusion of required customer information and that proper approvals are secured.
- Perform the financial process of closing fiber work orders (monthly/annually) and document preparation for annual audit.
- Communicate and interact with Fiber Operations and Logistics to resolve any discrepancies with materials and reconcile it to the work order.
- Reconcile fiber construction work in progress to applicable control accounts. Prepare journal entries in accordance with established procedures for other fiber plant accounts.
- Act as subject matter expert in fiber plant accounting, provide training and support to all departments regarding fiber work order procedures, accuracy in material, assembly unit and asset recordkeeping, etc.
- Oversee the consumer contributions for fiber construction accounts. Verify, approve, and process all contributions for construction transfers related to fiber. Maintain and reconcile subsidiary ledgers for contributions in aid of construction.
- Ensure the proper use of the loan project coding in the RIVR Tech & Fiber capital budget. Assist in the development and maintenance of fiber capital budget monitoring systems. Review the fiber capital budget periodically to analyze trends. Assist with the projection of fiber capital expenditures and assist in the creation of feasibility studies.
- Prepare and maintain financial reports monthly. Track budget to actual operating results for RIVR Tech and identify any variances. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Perform regular reconciliations of accounts related to fiber optic projects.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all grant requirements related to fiber optic projects. Prepare and submit required financial reports and documentation to grant authorities. Maintain comprehensive records of grant expenditures and allocations. Assist in audits and reviews by grant agencies, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Business Administration or Business related field Required or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- 3-5 years Accounting experience with fiber broadband, capital expenditures, work order and plant accounting Required
- Must have an understanding of budgeting methods, work orders, and cost accounting.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be familiar with GAAP accounting and grant accounting/reporting to government authorities.
- Valid Driver's License Upon Hire Required
