The Opportunity

Lead School Counselor & Clinical Supervisor


Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for two site-based Lead School Counselor & Clinical Supervisors who are relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. Lighthouse staff believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. This role will be an integral part of the multi-tiered systems of support team (MTSS) which ensures all students receive necessary academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional supports to thrive and that clinical staff develop in their practice in alignment with the Lighthouse Mission, Theory of Change, Graduate Profile, and Instructional Stances.




Roles and Responsibilities


CLINICAL SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and directly manage counselors and clinical interns, including providing individual and group clinical supervision. Please note Board Licensure is a requirement for this position.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Services on social-emotional learning across tiers, including the development and execution of policies, such as crisis response, mandated reporting, suicide awareness and prevention, etc.

  • Lead professional development for the counseling team and organization-wide staff on relevant topics, including trauma-based practices, social-emotional learning, special education, etc.

  • Provide consultation and support with urgent clinical issues to any counseling trainees or other counselors on the team

  • Liaise and partner with external services providers of mental health services to ensure quality of service implementation and partnerships in service of school, student, and family needs

  • Provide oversight to the counselors to support the implementation of counseling services as identified in the IEP for any students on caseload with IEPs requiring counseling services

  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Special Education & Specialized Programs, manage the counseling trainee program partnerships with local universities.

  • Support the development and implementation of multi-tiered systems of support, including intervention, data collection, collaboration with a range of stakeholders, documentation, and child find processes

  • Provide guidance to counseling staff and liaise with external services providers of mental health services, as needed

  • Lead clinical team meetings at assigned school site

  • Facilitate the intake and distribution of referrals for counseling services

  • Provide input and feedback and support the execution of policies, including crisis response, transgender/gender diverse supports and policies, etc.

  • Support the collection and analysis of social-emotional learning universal screener data to build multi-tiered supports and services

  • Participate on student support teams, as assigned, including attendance and multi-tiered systems of support

  • Participate in identified leadership trainings with the family of schools

  • Support and facilitate new staff orientation and hiring and onboarding of new counseling staff and wider school staff as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor


SCHOOL COUNSELOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide group and individual counseling, case management, and consultation services for a caseload of students, dependent on the needs of the school and students

  • Provide counseling services to identified students and to address a range of skill areas, including social skills, coping with grief/loss, ability to communicate needs or self-advocate, capacity to problem-solve, stress reduction, anger management, and focus and attentional redirection

  • Collaborate effectively across a range of stakeholders, including caregivers and teachers, to interpret the strengths and needs of a student and discuss possible interventions and supports

  • Participate in individualized education plan meetings, and in student-led conferences for students on your caseload, as appropriate

  • Collect and analyze data to determine responsiveness to interventions and monitor progress on goals

  • Conduct safety assessments and assist in responding to mental health crises

  • Be a connector to caregivers, including building relationships, connecting to internal and external services and resources

  • Support in crisis response, which may include but is not limited to conducting risk assessments, completing mandated reporting, and consulting on complex situations

  • Continue to develop as a practitioner through seeking opportunities professional development and trainings independently and with the support of your supervisor

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

We would love to hear from you if your educational toolbox includes the following:

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in the appropriate field including: Psychology, School Psychology, Education Psychology, required

  • California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with School Counselor authorization, strongly preferred

  • Licensed for at least 2 years with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology as a Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

  • 2+ years as a clinical supervisor

  • Experience facilitating adult learning or leading professional learning teams

  • Experience working with youth in K-12, urban settings similar to our student population

  • Experience working with at-risk youth and families in clinical and/or school settings

  • Expertise in crisis intervention.

  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred

SUPERVISION

This position reports to the Senior Director of Special Education and Specialized Programs.


TIME COMMITMENT

This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 11-month (210 day) work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families. 11-month staff report back for the first day of the new fiscal year in July (see exact calendar).

Common Building Hours: All managerial staff are expected to maintain building hours of 8:00 - 5:00 pm; exact schedule to be determined with supervisor approval.
