RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential –

 

  • Tutor basic arithmetic, algebra, and higher level math concepts to students who need assistance in math or math – related courses.
  • Maintain accurate accounts of supplies in the math lab, informing supervisor and/or administrative assistant in a timely fashion when something needs to be replaced or has gone missing.
  • Alert supervisor to any problems and/or concerns related to the math lab or to the learning center in general.
  • Model “best practices” of professional tutoring, including maintenance of open communication with peer tutors and supervisor.
  • Promote implementation of adopted learning center procedures.
  • Communicate, as needed, with online students through LearningZone, Zoom, and email, answering questions and referring students to appropriate web sources.
  • Participate in tutor training and other training as needed.
  • Report progress of students to instructional staff.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Serve actively on HutchCC committees.

 

Secondary –

 

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Rimmer Support Services, such as conducting seminars and workshops, and sharing the supervision of the center as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Associate Degree required; Bachelor Degree with Mathematics emphasis preferred.
  • Mathematics course work through the calculus sequence required.
  • The ability to direct activities of students in an individualized and small group setting required.
  • Computer experience with support software preferred.
  • Instructional or tutorial experience preferred.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with RLRC staff, as well as HutchCC students, faculty, staff and administration.
  • Physical requirements include excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to sit or stand in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time; perform hand motions for keyboarding, operating office equipment, answering telephones, and other office equipment; Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, enter data into a computer, and to operate additional office equipment; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; attentive to detail, accurately follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, The position will require transporting of packages and some lifting up to 25 pounds. Sedentary-medium /Indoor work environment with a substantial amount of keyboarding required.

HOURLY WAGE and STATUS:

 

  • The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications as determined by the HutchCC administration. This full-time support staff position is 12-months annual, 40 hours per week, benefit eligible, non-exempt, and at-will.  Time shall be tracked through the time clock system.
