Position Summary:

The Junior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the church. This position is responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and providing financial analysis and reporting.  The Junior Accountant works closely with other members of the Finance team to ensure the church’s financial integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Essential Duties

  • Assists the Senior Accountant with management of vendor profiles in the NetSuite financial system with the set up and updating of vendor profiles in the system, while ensuring accurate and up-to-date information exists for procurement and payment processing.
  • Monitors credit card transactions and prepare management reports on a monthly schedule for credit card activity. Receive monthly credit card receipts from employees, verify expenses and ensure compliance with company credit card policies.
  • Generates a monthly report on credit card violations or discrepancies and provides timely updates to the Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, and Senior Director of Finance.
  • Trains new hires on credit card receipt submission procedures and provide training on system used, currently Expensify, while ensuring adherence to expense reporting guidelines.
  • On a weekly basis, enters donor contributions accurately into the church management system and membership database Pushpay/ Church Community Builder (CCB).
  • Creates training videos demonstrating the functionality of the financial systems.
  • Assists the Senior Accountant in filing invoices and maintaining an organized and accessible record keeping system.
  • Manages the Offering Team volunteer schedule, sends schedule reminders and provides guidance and support as they assist with donation collection.
  • **Counts offering on Sundays and works with Finance team to make timely deposits.**
  • Assists the Senior Director of Finance with receipt submissions, purchase order submissions and ad hoc reports, as needed.
  • Coordinates electronic distribution of annual contribution statements.
  • Collaborates with the IT department to maintain an accurate membership database.


Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience in an accounting department, a degree is preferred but not required.
  • **Availability to work on Sundays from 8:00am to 3:00pm. (required)**
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of AI and other applications that can assist in creating financial training tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience with vendor relations.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or religious organization (volunteer experience is acceptable).
  • This role will require the person to work onsite during their training phase with an eventual transition to a hybrid model once that is completed and approved by their manager and the Senior Director of Finance.  
  • Can work well independently and as a team.
