Huntington University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology. This position begins in August 2024 and will remain open until filled.

Job responsibilities will focus on teaching our Anatomy and Physiology sequence, Genetics, and Zoology for the 2024-2025 academic year. During the Fall semester the successful candidate will teach BI241 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (~40 students, lecture and lab) and BI321 Genetics (~40 students, lecture and lab). During the Spring semester teaching responsibilities consist of BI242 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (~30 students, lecture and lab), BI222 Zoology (15-20 students, lecture and lab), and the lecture for a non-majors introductory biology course (BI111, Biology in the Modern World). The appointment is for one year, but successful candidates are encouraged to apply to the tenure-track position which will have a start date of the following academic year.

Candidates must have a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and support Huntington’s mission as an evangelical Christian liberal arts university. Candidates should possess a vibrant commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and demonstrate the ability to integrate their faith with their discipline.

The Department of Biology is housed in the well-equipped Dowden Science Hall. Relevant resources include an Anatomage Table 10 and a new fleet of Leica student microscopes. If desired, the successful candidate is welcome to pursue research projects with undergraduate students and will have access to dedicated research laboratory space. The Department of Biology works closely with the Departments of Agribusiness, Chemistry, Kinesiology, Nursing, and Occupational Therapy, and encourages interdisciplinary service and research projects.

  • Ph.D. or master’s degree in Biology (Ph.D. or ABD preferred), with experience in an area related to human biology, physiology, genetics, or animal organismal biology.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate students. Able to use creative pedagogical techniques to engage students.
  • Commitment to supporting our biology pre-med program through mentoring undergraduates and promoting related student organizations and activities.
  • Interest in pursuing research and other forms of scholarly work that involve undergraduate students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a variety of settings.
