SUMMARY
The Thrift Store Assistant Manager will help oversee all operations of the Thrift Store and bring new, innovative ideas to make the CAP Agency’s Thrift Store the destination of choice in our community. The Thrift Store Assistant Manager will assist in the set-up and management of the store, supervision and training of employees, and recruitment of volunteers. Reports to the Thrift Store Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position will assist in overseeing the general operation and success of the retail Thrift Store. Functions include but are not limited to:
•Seek innovative ways to manage and improve Thrift Store operations.
•Create a positive image and professional atmosphere that promotes the values of CAP’s mission.
•Assist coordination and help manage staff schedules to provide adequate coverage for store.
•Assist with training of staff and volunteers on proper procedures when working in the store.
•Plan, prioritize, assign, and monitor employees and volunteers daily job duties.
•Lead the staff and volunteers in preparing to open the store and keeping it organized and stocked throughout the day.
•Hold team meetings and maintain ongoing communications with the Thrift Store staff and volunteers so they are aware of assignments and initiatives for the day.
•Answer questions, advise, demonstrate and train employees and/or volunteers on customer service, cash register operation, stocking methods, cleaning, and safety procedures.
•Be a team player who is eager to work with a variety of people in a helpful, upbeat manner.
•Lead staff in excellent customer service: greeting, assisting, and thanking shoppers for their purchases and patronage to CAP.
•Responsible for operations of the register; reconciling cash, balance and record reports, and card sales daily.
•Develop and maintain security measures for merchandise and cash handling.
•Assist in developing and managing the store budget and managing expenses.
•Assist in the processing of donated items; manage the rotation of items and the disposal of donated items in a timely fashion.
•Assist in managing store layout and displays, ensuring store is clean and organized.
•Ensure safety and welfare of employees and instruct in proper security and safety procedures.
•Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Resourceful self-starter with a proven ability to follow through on a wide range of projects. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to train others. Fashion and decorative merchandising skills needed with retail experience preferred. Basic math skills and ability to operate register required.
Knowledge and Skills
•Excellent customer service skills.
•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Experience in retail business preferred.
•Must be able to instruct, train, and demonstrate effectively.
•Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
•Must be able to carry, lift, push or pull forty (40) pounds.
•Must be flexible and able to adjust to unexpected or different situations.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a retail environment, standard office, outdoors, and with CAP Agency utility vehicles. Lifting of articles such as bags, boxes, and other items more than 20 pounds, as well as lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and walk continuously throughout the workday. Ability to drive a motor vehicle including a van and/or box truck may be a requirement. Able to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
