STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt


PAY RANGE: $24.00 - $27.00 Hourly

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Volunteer Engagement & College Partnerships Specialist is responsible for supporting volunteer management, engagement, and partnership development with local colleges and universities. The primary focus of this role will be to provide programmatic and administrative support for the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps program, which engages college students in community service. Additionally, this role will coordinate, recruit, and manage other community volunteers and programs, to foster strong relationships and partnerships to support the Food Bank’s mission.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

Program Support: Provides programmatic and administrative support for the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps program, serving as a key liaison between the Food Bank and partner campuses. Collaborates with colleges, universities, and other educational institutions to promote internship opportunities. Builds and maintains relationships with academic institutions and career services offices.

Student and Volunteer Supervision: Provides direct supervision to more than 30 student fellows serving with the Food Bank. Plans and coordinates students’ schedules and daily work assignments based on internal needs. Leads the onboarding and ongoing training of student fellows, ensuring compliance with program objectives and providing continuous support. Monitors student performance, provides feedback and coaching, and addresses any performance or behavioral issues as necessary.

Volunteer Engagement and Administration: Recruits, schedules, and coordinates individual and group volunteers to support the Food Bank’s operations and events. Leads, trains, orients, and supervises volunteers across various events, ensuring a positive and fulfilling experience to encourage continued participation. Represents the Food Bank at community events to build and sustain partnerships that support ongoing volunteer engagement and involvement. Manages volunteer records, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting activities such as hours completed and project participation.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • An associate's or bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. 2-4 years of experience working in community engagement, community service programs, or volunteer management preferred, or a combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience. Supervisory experience desired.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving and organizational abilities.

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • Strong presentation skills, including networking and public speaking.

  • Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.

  • Excellent project management skills including planning, organizing and effective time management.

  • Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to properly handle confidential information.

  • Proficient skills in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google platform (Google Docs, etc.).

  • Ability to work productively in an environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job.

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.

  • Regularly guide volunteers to different locations around the Food Bank throughout the day.

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds.

  • Valid CA Driver’s License and access to a reliable and insured vehicle. Occasional travel within Los Angeles County. May be scheduled to work at either facility in Los Angeles, CA, or the City of Industry, CA

  • May need to commute between Food Bank facilities in Los Angeles, CA, or the City of Industry, CA
