Salary Range: $14/hr + DOQ

Reports to: Swim Development Coordinator

Date: June 2024

Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Swim Development Coordinator, Swim Instructors teach group, private and semi-private swimming lessons to all ages and ability levels. This position is responsible for creating a fun and safe learning environment to ensure a positive participant experience while following the program curriculum.

Essential Duties

  • Ability to instruct swimming lessons and demonstrate swimming strokes and water safety skills
  • Provide instruction on water safety topics and skills based on the swim lesson program curriculum
  • Effectively utilize classroom management strategies to maximize swimmer progress
  • Maintain a positive and enthusiastic demeanor while teaching swim lessons
  • Communicate with participants and their parent/guardian to update them on their progress
  • Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
  • Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
  • Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
  • Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
  • Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
  • Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
  • Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Hours

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are varied to include evenings and weekends.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional aquatic environment. This role is predominately in the pool and utilizes pool equipment. While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim; stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience

Previous experience with swimming or teaching swim lessons is preferred but not required.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 15
  • Swimming experience required
  • Experience working with children (2 months to adult) in an instructional setting a plus
  • Strong communication skills

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Lifeguard certification preferred
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (or completed within 60 days)
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or completed within 90 days. Will be considered an Instructor’s Aide until completed)
