  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Preferred completion of Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification
  • 5-10 Years of Experience as a Design Engineer in the municipal engineering field
  • Active involvement in the submission of a minimum of three (3) Professional Development Reports for Federally Funded projects
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Competence in relevant computer software, including ICORS, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD
Position Overview:
  • Completion of IDOT Form BLR 22210 and associated documentation, encompassing:
  • Preparation of existing and proposed cross-sections
  • Development of pavement designs
  • Initial roadway and drainage design
  • Estimation of preliminary construction costs
  • Design of ADA ramps
  • Formulation of maintenance of traffic and staging plans
  • Generation of crash diagrams
  • Federally-Funded Surface Transportation Program (STP) and Local Agency Functional Overlay (LAFO) projects
  • Locally funded transportation improvements
  • Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Low-Interest Utility Improvements
  • Motor Fuel Tax (MFT)-Funded Transportation Improvements
Requirements:
  • Familiarity with 3R Design Guidelines
  • Knowledge of BLRS 27-7 (Variances) and capability to fulfill BLR22120 requirements
  • Understanding of BLRS Chapter 41 pertaining to accommodations for pedestrians, bicyclists, and individuals with disabilities
  • Proficiency in analyzing Crash Data to anticipate future design needs
  • Familiarity with IDOT’s Right-of-Way (ROW) and Easement acquisition process
  • Understanding of IDOT’s Environmental Survey process
  • Familiarity with IDOT’s Complete Streets requirements
  • Knowledge of IDOT’s Public Involvement requirements and ability to lead or assist in public meetings
