Currently seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly focused individuals to instruct in a vocational Culinary Arts program. Job Corps is a federally funded career technical training program for youth ages 16-24. The ideal candidate will possess and demonstrate exceptional front of the house leadership qualities. Experience in restaurant management, catering and event planning is preferred.


Position Responsibilities


  • Coordinate and deliver culinary instruction for students using standardized curriculum.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationship with program participants. Must have the ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on student and customer service which is essential to the success of this position.
  • Maintain high standard of expectations from program participants and services delivered by Culinary program.
  • Support banquet and catering operations to ensure optimum guest satisfaction and create an impeccable environment of service
  • Knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and inventory systems
  • Ensure students adhere to safety and sanitation guidelines provided by San Francisco Department of Health
  • Prepares and delivers instruction to students following the class syllabus using the approved learning management system Develop and adapt lessons and curriculum to supplement culinary instruction.
  • Prepares assignments and assessments to assure achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Ability to introduce academic applied learning in culinary math and cashiering skills.
  • Designs and maintains an active classroom environment conducive to student learning and success
  • Provides regular and timely evaluation feedback to students, posts grades, and submits final assessments by the established deadline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching a class or facilitating training
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative


Required Qualifications

  • Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities to successfully teach hospitality, culinary arts and food management.
  • Experience working in the hospitality industry and restaurant management.
  • ServSafe Certified. (Instructor/Proctor certification preferred, but not required)
  • Knowledge of culinary equipment, hospitality, and food and kitchen sanitation.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diversity, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and risk factors of at risk youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to model, mentor and manage participants in line with appropriate employability, social, and independent living skills.
  • CA CTE teaching credential or the ability to get one
