Crater/Packer

To be successful in this position carpentry skills are needed as well as experience working with all power and manual hand tools. Must be able to read blueprints and lift 50-80 pounds.

The Crater/Packer is accountable for packing/crating a variety of products and materials leaving the warehouse. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: fabricating wooden crates or boxes using hand/power tools; reading blueprints, shipping notices and other specifications and inspecting product to determine size/shape of container, materials to be used and types of supports/braces to be used.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Load materials and products into package processing equipment
• Clean containers, materials, supplies or work areas using cleaning solutions and hand tools
• Record product, packaging and order information on specified forms and records
• Examine and inspect containers, materials and products to ensure that packing specifications are met
• Measure, weigh, and count products and materials
• Lay out dimensions on materials with ruler, measuring tape and pencil
• Saw materials to size using hand/power saws
• Assemble materials using various tools and place them in container/crate
• Build crates and prepares for shipping including applying labels and other packaging requirements
• Count items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders
• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Update supplies as needed

Education and Experience

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Ability to work and communicate well with others, meet tight deadlines, and manage busy work schedule
• Effectively work in an environment requiring repetitive job responsibilities
• Ability to focus on safety and quality
• Basic computer skills required
• Forklift operating experience preferred
