GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Educare of Omaha, Inc. is a collaborative partnership between the Early Head Start/Head Start, Omaha Public Schools and the Buffett Early Childhood Fund. Comprised of the two Educare Omaha Schools (Kellom and Indian Hill) and the three Early Learning Centers (Skinner, Gateway, and Kennedy), the mission of Educare of Omaha, Inc. is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children ages 0 to 5 through the provision of evidence-based education, health, nutritional, social, family engagement and other services to enrolled children and their families.
The Staff Accountant will have skills in all aspects of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement and general ledger reconciliations. Highly developed interpersonal, problem solving, supervisory, time management and decision-making skills are required to be successful. The position requires a high degree of attention to detail. Ongoing training and skill building is encouraged.
Schedule: This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, at our Early Learning Center at Skinner (30th and Ames). There is a variation of schedules available within the hours of 7:00am-5:30pm.
Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Reports to: Fiscal Services Director
Supervises: The Staff Accountant is a non-supervisory position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and update accounting records and files.
- Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Provide supporting documentation for annual audit and program funding audits.
- Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements for board, administration, and other entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, audit preparation, and other duties as identified.
- Performs other program related duties as assigned
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma and/or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Payroll experience required.
- Uses payroll software, inputs payroll data, and prepares payroll checks. Processes irregular payments such as bonuses. Answers employee questions related to payroll and resolves issues. May maintain vacation and personal time records. Helps to ensure payroll practices meet government compliance.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Outlook and Word required.
- Expertise in creating and interpreting spreadsheets required.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data required.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
- Strong accounting knowledge of federally funded programs preferred.
- Nonprofit and grant accounting preferred.
- Proven payroll, accounts payable/receivable experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes preferred.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting preferred.
