Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Die Polisher ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Die Polisher will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.


The general purpose of the Die Polisher is to gather die tooling, set up or break down extrusion dies, change dies at the press, work with the caustic station, sandblast cycled dies, focus on learning entry level die report and performance.


  • Use dispatch and die shop PC to get home locations for press tooling, gather dies/tools and set up for production by using the overhead crane.
  • Be present at press during die changes to switch dies out of press, breakdown dies/tooling that have ran orders completed at the press.
  • Will swap tooling in and out of die ovens by using the overhead crane.
  • Prepare dies to cycle through caustic, work caustic room by cycling tooling through caustic bath by using the overhead crane.
  • Sandblast dies to clean caustic residual off. This will be done by utilizing the upright blasting cabinet and the overhead crane.
  • Put dies and tooling home after it is no longer needed at the press. This will be done by utilizing the overhead crane.
  • Utilize the overhead crane to assist the press department.
  • Polish dies for production.
  • Check bearing quality and die/tool integrity.
  • Blending minor defects in bearing surfaces.
  • Assign home locations to dies and other press tools.

  • Performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments



Requirements:

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Physical Demands

Physical Demand refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational tasks (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling).


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands to handle, and reach with hands and arms. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. On occasion the employee may be required to sit, climb or balance.


The employee must frequently lift up 10 to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.


Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and the Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and extreme heat (non-weather). The employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. On occasion employees can work in high, precarious places, and vibrations.


The noise is typically loud in this work environment. Hearing protection is required.


Employees is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
