Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Chemist to join our Applications and Product Development team. Chemists work within the technology group alongside research chemists and laboratory technicians. Chemists provide laboratory support on department projects and may directly collaborate with technical services, operations, sales, and product management. The chemist in this role will also be responsible for conducting application testing in the evaluation of existing and future products including, but not limited to, water treatment and maintenance chemistries, and onboard test kits. This role also involves assisting laboratory staff with routine application experiments and conducting analytical testing via instrumental analysis. The position reports directly to the VP of Applications and Product Development.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support laboratory staff via sample preparation and conducting routine application tests to evaluate product performance
  • Perform analytical analysis using test kits and instrumentation such as spectrophotometers, titrators, and other relevant equipment
  • Conduct laboratory experiments to screen raw materials and measure performance of formulations, both existing and new developments
  • Collaborate with members of product management, technical service, and operations teams
  • Collaborate with laboratory and technical staff to interpret test results
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibration and validation are performed regularly
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations in the laboratory
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and efficiency
  • Other duties and tasks may be assigned

Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills:

  • 2+ years of industrial lab experience preferred; knowledge of basic wet chemistry techniques including but not limited to titrations, weighing samples, dilutions and safe chemical handling procedures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Required experience handling hazardous chemicals
  • Required basic chemical & safety knowledge
  • Preferred familiarity with product development and performance testing
  • Preferred experience in the maritime industry or with onboard test kits

  • Follow the practices implemented by Management in adhering to legal and other requirements

Education/Certifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related Science.

Physical Working Environment:

Ability to work in a laboratory environment around chemicals and testing equipment and to stand or work in a bench top/fume hood work environment. Some lifting (generally under 25 lbs.) is required for sample and material handling.
