Safety Coordinator

The safety coordinator is responsible for initiating, leading and maintaining safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and productive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with safety advisors and management about safety inquiries and/or responses as needed.
  • Create new and maintain established safety policies and procedures, serve as liaison with safety consultants to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and provide corrective action.
  • Perform regular safety audits and required inspections that are required to keep manufacturing facility OSHA compliant.
  • Direct and document safety committee meeting discussions, project updates and communication of new safety initiatives.
  • Investigate accidents and complete required documentation to complete the OSHA log and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure first aid/safety equipment is replenished including but not limited to first aid supplies, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, ppe, safety signs, etc.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training to staff and new hires on safety initiatives.                                                          

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to investigate and problem solve in a creative and proactive manner.
  • Must be able to build employee relationships, effectively communicating in verbal and written form. 
  • Actively listen to employees and hold production team members accountable for safety initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects at once while retaining a professional demeanor.
  • Utilize computer software to enter date, create and document reports. 

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree, technical college, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must understand continuous improvement principles and OSHA compliances and documentation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Must be able to lift 30-60lbs at times, team lifting when necessary.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with manufacturing environments.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, twist and move around a production facility with ease.
