Basketball League Supervisor

Wage: $13-$15/hour
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Basketball League Supervisor serves under the direction of and general supervision of the Sports Program Coordinators and the Recreation Directors. This K-2nd Grade coed basketball program begins September and runs through October. Weekly hours may vary depending on season and league programming. Basketball League Supervisor should possess knowledge of general basketball rules, and has skills in communicating effectively with coaches, players, officials and spectators. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Questions call 785-6172.
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Working under direct supervision of the recreation program coordinators.
- Attending all scheduled games and arrive 30 minutes prior to game time.
- Ability to work well with youth and adults.
- Overseeing staff assigned by league coordinator, i.e., scorekeepers, referees.
- Supervise-Referee assigned league games, report league information to coordinator.
- Assisting coordinators with training of youth staff.
- Assisting with coaches meetings and any necessary league preparation.
- Submittal of supervised staff hours
- Saturday hours.
- Weeknight hours.
- Setup/take down and clean-up of facilities after each game day.
- Substituting as supervisor for other programs within the recreation department.
- Assisting with all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have good oral and written communication abilities
- Good public relation skills and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with all ages of youth and adults.
- Ability to referee basketball games.
- Ability to follow basic safety precautions and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
- Ability to make sound decisions in sometimes stressful environments.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience working in a supervisory position preferred but not required.
CONDITIONS
- Moderate physical activity. Ability to lift 15 to 50 pounds
- Position requires walking, standing, lifting and other physical activity.
- Work Weeknights and or Saturdays
