REPORTS TO: Camp Director
LOCATION: 13009 Community Campus Dr, Tampa, FL 33625 (Cohn Campus)
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time; Variable
STATUS: Hourly; Non-Exempt
HOURS: 40 hours per week
COMPENSATION: Paid biweekly

SUMMARY: The Music Specialist is a key part of our Summer Camp Program. We are looking for a person to foster creation and enjoyment through daily music lessons with our campers. The specialist will coordinate group songs and plan music curriculum for all campers—ages 5-13 (kindergarten through middle school). Specialists should encourage campers to participate in musical activities, cooperate with other campers, and explore their confidence through music.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Give a 9-week summer commitment (May 30-July 28).

  • Ensure campers’ safety at all times.

  • Follow and promote all policies and philosophies in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and the public on and off site.

  • Demonstrate a high quality of work standards and ethics.

  • Under the direction of the Camp Director, implement behavior modifications as described in the Camper’s Code of Conduct.

  • Prepare weekly lesson plans related to music for all age groups.

  • Lead “Flagpole” songs and chants each morning for all campers and staff.

  • Learn, lead, sing and play traditional songs in camp catalog as well as children’s movement songs and Jewish camp songs.

  • Assist Senior Counselors in managing camper behavior.

  • Use learned positive reinforcement methods in managing camper behaviors.

  • Assist in other areas of campus and/or groups during “off-periods.”

  • Follow established cleaning procedures; ensure clean and tidy surroundings before transitioning to a different area on campus.

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.

  • Wear staff shirt daily— shirts provided for each staff member.
