Feed & Forage Lab Technician

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the preparation and analysis of feed and forage samples. They will also be the backup driver for picking up samples on a route, log samples in, dry and grind feed samples, dish samples for NIR scanning, and will assist in reporting feed results.
Job Type: Temporary, 40 hrs/week + overtime
Estimated Duration: August - November
ESSNETIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Login and prepare Feed and Forage samples
- Backup driver in picking up daily samples from mail and designated locations
- Operate feed grinders and electronic balance machines
- Enter required feed data in computer system
- Analysis of sampled by Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIR)
- Assist in reporting feed results
- Packaging and shipping of samples going to other labs for testing
- Follow lab safety practices as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
- Assist in maintaining physical properties of the lab
- Perform regular scheduled maintenance on equipment
- General cleaning of work area
- Maintaining good customer service and relations
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
COMPETENCIES

- Possess knowledge of office procedures and methods including telephone communications, office systems, and record keeping.
- Working knowledge of methodologies.
- Excellent time management skills to handle multiple deadlines, changing priorities, and many distractions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office products.
- Listen effectively and follow directions
- Produce accurate and high-quality materials and data entry.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience in an agricultural field (1-2 years), preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed largely in a laboratory environment with moderate to high noise level and dusty environment

- Work schedule will normally be Monday through Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM with occasional weekend and/or evening hours depending upon need.
- Will be exposed to dust, molds, smoke, other allergens (ie. nuts), high temperatures, and strong odors on a regular basis.
- Must wear personal protective equipment.
