The Charles River Center provides innovative opportunities, services, and supports for over 950 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury, and mental health challenges in the Metrowest and Southeast regions of Massachusetts.

Adult Companions are responsible for providing support, supervision, and socialization for an individual with ID/DD in his/her home; in their family home or in the community. The Adult Companion must be able to assist different individuals affectively and with full support. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skills required.

  • Provide support for the individual as needed. This may include assistance with meals and activities of daily living according to the support and supervision needed.
  • Integrate the individual into the community & participate with the during community-based activities as requested.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks that are incidental to the care and supervision of the individual in his/her home.
  • Assist the individual to accomplished the goals set in his/her individual support plan.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic - provide positive reinforcement through personal energy.
  • Comfortable with toileting and feeding assistance.
  • Complete unique progress notes for each shift and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's Degree preferred. Must have direct support experience with people with ID/DD.

· Successful completion and maintenance of the following: CPR and First Aid Certification; Human Rights; Universal Precautions; Mandated Reporting; DPPC; Fire Safety and Vehicle Safety Health and employees on the 1st day of employment.

· Working knowledge of behavior modification techniques.
