Vocational Habilitation (Voc/Hab) Trainer I Full-time

Role Responsibilities

The Voc/Hab Trainer I works under the direct supervision of the Voc/Hab Manager at a Texana Learning Center. The main purpose of this position is to develop our individual’s skills and abilities so they reach their fullest potential by providing direct services as designated by individual service plans, individual plans of care (IPC’s), applicable rules and standards, and facility/departmental policy.

The Voc/Hab Trainer I is responsible for providing individualized skills and socialization services to persons with Developmental Disabilities and/or Dual Diagnoses as assigned in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules, standards, and guidelines (HCS, TxHmL, GR). To meet programmatic needs, the Voc/Hab Trainer I may also be responsible for providing community supports, supported home living, supported home living and transportation.

This position is considered Essential Staff and will be required to report to their assigned work area prior to, during and after an Emergency event as directed by their supervisor.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing consistent supervision and quality interactions to assigned individuals
  • Implementation of training programs and accurate data collection on a daily basis
  • Consistent implementation of behavior support plans and accurate data collection
  • Participation in planning and implementation of new challenging activities based on individual’s needs & preference
  • Clear, accurate documentation of provision of services as designated by standards, rules & policies
  • Monitoring client’s vital signs (temperature, blood pressure and heart rate) and weight as trained by the nurse.
  • Transportation of individuals using Texana Center vehicles
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Responsible and accountable for adherence to and promotion of the compliance policy.

Works Monday through Friday, 8-4 with flexible hours as determined by center needs.

Salary

  • $15.00/hour

Required Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills

  • High School diploma or GED certification required.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable by Texana’s insurance carrier.

Preferred Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills

  • CPR, SAMA, and computer skills are helpful
  • At least 6 months in a caretaker or day habilitation trainer position.
  • Knowledge of IDD needs and activities.

Job Related Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform SAMA and CPR. Training provided to employees once hired.
  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting (15-45 lbs.) pushing, stooping, light carrying (15lbs.) repeated bending, reaching above the shoulder, simple grasping, hearing, walking, and sitting and twisting.
  • Must have ability to see, write, operate office equipment, operate a motor vehicle and have depth perception.
  • Qualified individual must be able to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
