A Day in the Life of an Emergency Department Medic: 

Emergency Department (ED) Medics assist practitioners in daily comprehensive care of emergency services patients.  ED Medics will practice under the scope of their license with additional responsibilities performed under the direct supervision of a licensed Physician and as allowed by governing rules and regulations.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:

• Provides direct patient care within the scope of license or under the supervision of a physician and within pre-established rules, regulations, and protocols.

• Assesses patients at ED arrival and/or triage.

• Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).

• Performs 12 lead EKGs and ECGs.

• Administers emergency medications in accordance with the rules and regulations of the State of Wyoming Scope of Practice for Paramedics.

• Provides treatment of wounds, collects specimens, places splints/boots/etc., performs POC testing, performs IV fluid administration, and other services as appropriate.

• Transports patients with cardiac monitoring as needed.

• Documents patient related information into chart or electronic health record (EHR).

• Serves as a department liaison.  Resolves issues and complaints in a timely manner, escalating to RN Charge Nurse or Supervisor as appropriate.

• Adheres to rules and regulations governing limitations of practice.

• Knowledge of advanced medical terminology

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Ability to quickly and calmly handle crisis situations

• Ability to work in a fast-paced and continually changing environment

• Knowledge and understanding of restricted functions whether or not function is supervised by a licensed physician

Here Is What You Will Need:

• Wyoming EMT-P license

• National Registry of Emergency Medical Techs (NREMT) certification

• One (1) or more years of emergency medical service experience

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

• Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date

Nice to Have:

• Emergency vehicle operation and maintenance experience

• Community Paramedic Certification
