Job Summary

With the opportunity to work a shift that best fits your personal schedule, Garlock is seeking to fill positions on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts as well as a weekend shift. This position will perform diversified manual and mechanical duties to aid in the set up and operation of manufacturing machinery in several production sections of the company including press, converting, lamination and bag/pouch operations. Duties include machine set up, loading product, machine operation, quality checks, routine machine maintenance, and other similar duties pertaining to machine operation. Duties require verbal communications skills, visual acuity to machine operation and product details as well as written material, manual coordination, and dexterity in the use of ordinary hand tools, and the physical ability to lift various weights, climbing and reaching around machinery.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist operator(s) as needed to maintain ongoing production.
  • Take care of rewind rolls coming on and off slitting/rewinding machinery
  • Unloading rewind rolls, samples, labeling.
  • Cut cores to job spec. and maintain available cores and packing supplies at all remind machines.
  • Rewind and fix nonconforming finished product rolls on sidewinder.
  • Enter production date and create and print labels for reworked product.
  • Unload finished rolls and place them into cartons or on pallets per job specs for shipping or state for material handler to pick up.
  • Take product sample from each finished roll and apply to correct sample label for the operator to check and verify.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of work area.
  • Maintain clean works area, including but not limited to sweeping debris and emptying waste containers.
  • Follow all established safety rules and regulations and utilize required safety equipment.
  • Promptly report any mechanical or electrical concerns related to required maintenance of machines Meet all quality and efficiency standards.
  • Detect improper machinery operations and/or unsafe conditions and report to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other similar duties as required or requested by supervisor.
  • Using a hand truck to organize work area and/or move materials Comply with all company safety policies and report any incidents or hazards.
  • Work with the leadership team when necessary to achieve performance goals Special project and assignments as business dictates.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Machine operators experience preferred ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers and be a team player.
  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16"
  • Ability to understand basic mathematics including decimals.
  • Manual coordination and dexterity while utilizing hand tools and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to handle equipment with care, caution and work safely.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Experience in manufacturing, the printing distribution and/or packaging is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

Physical Demands

  • On feet for approx. 8-12 hours daily on concrete floors
  • Repetitive lifting rolls onto a pallet & airshafts or metal pipes up to approximately 50 lbs., varying Heights up to 5 ft.
  • Squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, climbing steps, grabbing, pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Ishihara machine eye exam for perfect color.

Typical environment of manufacturing and production facilities. Exposure includes but is not limited to continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, machinery with moving parts.
