Job Title: ELL Instructor

Department: Workforce, Education and Innovation (WEI) | Adult Education

Supervisor: Adult Education Program Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Part-Time 

Part-time up to 12 hours, mornings, evenings, and/or Saturdays


Mission: The mission of the Latino Center of the Midlands is to cultivate generations of engaged, thriving Latinos through educational foundations, workforce development and leadership opportunities.


Summary

The ELL Instructor provides instruction to adult learners at an intermediate level in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language. The instructor's responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, delivering lectures and discussions to enhance vocabulary development, fluency, articulation, and comprehension of the English language. Lesson plans also incorporate aspects of U.S. culture and social norms. Additionally, the instructor tutors and supports students in areas such as verb tense, establishes clear learning objectives, assesses student progress with measurable objectives and timeframes, maintains accurate records, and assists in organizing ceremonies, events, and activities to celebrate student achievements. This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.


Essential Duties:

  • Develops course syllabus and lesson plans/activities to ensure proper implementation of course(s).
  • Help build positive relations within the team and program participants
  • Prepares class materials and sets up classes, workshops, or seminars when appropriate; prepares and processes all related paperwork and order material.
  • Responds by email, phone, or in person to client/student inquiries
  • Develop and maintain an updated class roster at all times; track attendance, as well as pre and post data. 
  • Support efforts to collect, input and transcribe data for programmatic evaluations, forms, and surveys
  • Implements course(s) thorough effective instructional techniques, including: engagement of students and proper implementation of course lesson plans.
  • Uses instructional experience to support program effectiveness. 
  • Attend required team meeting and engage in team development opportunities 
  • Stays up to date on required HR Vector trainings.
  • Represent LCM, Adult Education and its programing within the community, at outreach events and among stakeholders.
  • Maintains work hours during the summer; assists in program planning, student enrollment, and program development
  • Assist with special projects as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
