Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) to join our team at [Name of Skilled Nursing Facility]. As an OTA in our SNF, you will play a crucial role in providing therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation services to our residents. You will work under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists to help patients regain independence, improve functional abilities, and enhance their quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting initial and ongoing assessments of patients' functional abilities, including physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental factors.
- Implement therapeutic interventions and activities as prescribed by the supervising occupational therapist to improve patients' motor skills, coordination, endurance, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Provide individualized treatment sessions and group therapy activities based on patients' needs and treatment plans.
- Instruct and assist patients in therapeutic exercises, functional activities, and the use of adaptive equipment to promote independence and safety.
- Collaborate closely with the occupational therapist, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and achieve treatment goals.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic techniques, home exercise programs, and strategies for maintaining progress after discharge.
- Document patients' progress, outcomes, and changes in therapy plans in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of therapy areas and equipment, ensuring a safe and effective treatment environment.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and in-service training programs to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current state licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
- Previous experience in a skilled nursing facility or rehabilitation setting preferred.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, practices, and treatment techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to therapy, focusing on individualized care and functional outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
