This position will plan and implement safe, developmentally appropriate activities with the responsibility of managing their group of children with the support of the School Age Program Manager. The After School Teacher will ensure the enrichment, social development, health, and safety of children in the After School Program. This job is performed in classrooms at Friendly House, Wallace Park, and the two-block walking route between Friendly House and the park. One of our buildings is non-ADA-compliant. This position will adhere to all childcare regulations. This is a 30-hour per week position.


Essential functions

· Demonstrate the ability to comprehend and comply with the Oregon Rules for Certified Childcare Centers.

· Demonstrate the ability to recognize and act to correct hazards to physical safety, both indoors and outdoors by actively and continuously supervising the assigned group of children, always keeping them within sight and sound.

· Show good judgement as evidenced by responsible behavior that ensures the children's health and safety.

· Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their cultures.

· Demonstrate, model, and individualize the care and learning opportunities to meet each child’s needs based upon the child’s age, needs, and abilities; including reviewing the information provided by families while respecting confidentiality.

· Follow policies and procedures to identify each child for whom they are responsible, and relate to them with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.

· Constantly maintain appropriate staff to student ratios for a group of up to 15 children independently; share responsibility for groups of up to 30 children with an additional qualified teacher; share responsibility for groups of up to 100 children with the After School teaching team during whole group outdoor activities.

· Use and model appropriate, positive language and emotional skills for children.

· Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation in accordance with Oregon law.

· Have and maintain the required training and experience for the After School Teacher position, including meeting the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care’s (15 hours per year) requirements.

Competencies

· Develop and sustain classroom systems that promote a climate for healthy, culturally responsive child development, positive behavior, and accountability.

· Interact with staff and other adults in a positive and respectful manner.

· Attend required Children’s Program staff meetings, including the weekly After School Teacher meetings, After School weekly team planning meetings, Friendly House all-staff meetings and trainings (days and times TBD).

Qualifications

· Be at least 18 years of age

· At least a Step 6 in the Oregon Registry

· Current first aid and pediatric CPR training certificate

· Current food handler certification

· Current enrollment in CCLD’s Central Background Registry (CBR)

· Must be authorized to work in the United States

Physical Demands

· Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.

· Position requires the ability to routinely lift 50 pounds, bend, stoop, twist, run, and sit on the floor with children. Job involves sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and/or pulling.

· Requires the ability to move or traverse about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, center activities.

· Moderate or frequent exposure to loud noises, outside weather elements, and temperature changes.
