College Intern

Basic Functions: Under direction of purchasing/production management, assists in purchasing and tracking material throughout the manufacturing process. Will be assigned a project to manage, ensuring material arrives, is received, and shipped on time in order to meet customer expectations. Will have the opportunity to work in a manufacturing environment, learn purchasing function and will gain experience and a better understanding of Supply Chain Management. Wil also work with ERP system to create, edit and manage purchased part numbers & descriptions for the IFS System; ensures integrity of part numbers and descriptions.
Essential Duties:
- Position requires the constant and consistent exercise of intellect, judgment, and ability commensurate with Intern positions in similar industries or situations.
- Position requires regular exercise of problem solving skills.
- Ability to handle responsibilities with effective interpersonal skills and to effectively interface with others inside and outside the Company is required.
- Must have strong communication skills and some background in basic industrial procurement / supply chain functions.
- Assists in preparing purchase orders for specified materials for review by Senior Buyers or Purchasing Manager.
- Will perform detailed or routine procurement assignments such as negotiating prices within specified guidelines on routine material purchases; communicating with Senior Buyers and/or Purchasing Manager on a regular basis to ensure material requirements are met; receives, edits and analyzes part description and numbers; reviews projects for completeness, specifications and accuracy of part number and prices; contacts customer at the direction of Project Managers to clarify information.
- Will have procurement contact with Industrial boilers and related auxiliaries. Involvement with less complex aspects of procurement projects where limited evaluation is required. Refers problems and/or questions to purchasing management or senior buyers.
- Position may require extended periods of operating a personal computer as a normal part of job duties.
- Position required ability to work in a normal office environment and may require occasional/regular exposure to production plant environment with welding, machine and fabrication operations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration (or related field) student preferred, who has completed at least one year of College courses.
Experience: Some purchasing experience helpful. Familiar with Microsoft Office and understand ERP/MRP system(s).
Physical Skill and Effort: Work requires a few simple, but rapid, hand operations. Work requires simple, easy muscular movements.
Working Conditions and Hazards: Normal plant, shop, field or office conditions. From time to time, slightly disagreeable features. Negligible/little or no exposure.
Salary: We offer an excellent hourly pay rate and flexible hours that will work with a college schedule; part time hours may range from 10 to 40 hours per week.
