Job Summary:
The Med-Surg Nurse is a registered nurse responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in the medical-surgical unit (MS/Tele) of a major acute care hospital. This role involves evaluating patients, assisting physicians, and planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care based on patients' needs. The Med-Surg Nurse identifies patient needs and determines priorities for care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, with a commitment to providing patient-centric care in alignment with professional nursing practice models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Evaluation: Conduct assessments of patients' conditions, identifying needs and priorities for care.
- Care Planning: Develop, implement, and coordinate individualized plans of care for assigned patients based on initial and ongoing assessments.
- Nursing Interventions: Perform therapeutic nursing interventions as needed for patient care.
- Patient Management: Manage the care of patients throughout their stay, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
- Documentation: Accurately document care based on standards of care and practice, patient acuity, and/or clinical priorities.
- Evidence-Based Practice: Advocate for evidence-based practice care standards and support the adoption of evidence-based practices and innovations in care delivery.
- Patient-Centric Care: Provide patient-centric care in alignment with professional nursing practice models.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, other healthcare professionals, and support staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience also acceptable.
- Licensure: Active and unrestricted RN license in the state where the facility is located.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years prior RN experience working in an MS/Tele unit in a major acute care hospital setting.
- Specialized Skills: Strong background in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing required.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare technologies.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and patients.
- Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
- Patient Advocacy: Commitment to patient advocacy and promoting a culture of safety and respect.
