PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Senior CAD Designer is a key role in the organization. This individual will create 3D models based on requirements and guidance from design engineers, will draft drawings considering best practices and standards utilizing GD&T knowledge, and process changes utilizing the internal EC process to satisfy internal customers. In addition, this individual will support on internal process improvements regarding modeling guidelines and drafting standards and review work of design engineers to keep consistence in our data. The Senior CAD designer shall keep product related documentation up to date over the lifetime of our products.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Documentation and Records
    • Develop clearly defined change requests & route these proposed changes for approval utilizing an internal Engineering Change Process.
    • Incorporate changes requested by internal or external customers into models and drawings, passing all model and drawing reviews.
    • Keep product information up to date including BOMs, print packages, or other adjacent documentation for manufacturing or service including product overviews and technology overviews.
    • Convert legacy files to latest format and defined best practices for modeling and drafting.
    • Maintain map of current drafting practices and master models.
  • Support & Standards Development
    • Own the part number and description assigning process to keep consistency.
    • Support in defining modeling guidelines, drafting standards, and review processes including checklists.
    • Provide consultation and mentoring for engineers within the department for GD&T definition, modeling of complex geometry, or drawing standards.
    • Review work of other engineers regarding modeling and drafting; provide feedback and improve internal processes based on findings.
    • Conduct tolerance stack up analysis, collision checks, or similar methods as a service for the department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A Degree in Drafting Technology or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of drafting experience, including GD&T definition & best practice knowledge.
  • 5+ years 3D CAD experience in SolidWorks for modeling, configurations, and assemblies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified as SolidWorks CAD Design Expert (CSWE).
  • Familiar with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Detailed manufacturing process knowledge regarding die-casting, injection molding, sheet metal, machining, hardening, and finishing processes.
  • Experience within SolidWorks PDM Professional & SolidWorks Manage.

  • Self-starter, internally motivated, and capable of completing responsibilities in a timely, professional, and quality manner.

  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn; seek out development activities to improve skills and increase knowledge; learn from other team members and own mistakes.
