The Flow Cytometry Technologist is responsible for performing analytical cytometry examinations, quality control, instrument maintenance, testing validations, and other functions, while implementing the hospital and laboratory missions, goals and objectives.


ANOTHER NAME FOR THIS PROFESSION IS FLUORESCENCE-ACTIVATED CELL SORTING (FACS). A cytotechnologist without the ASCP (SCYM) will not be considered for this need.


Additional Requirements (including but not limited to):

  • Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work.
  • Teach medical technology students how to process specimens and answer computer related questions.
  • Responsible for care and accuracy in collection and labeling specimens.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time and under stress, to ensure against errors.
  • Above average manual dexterity.
  • Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing, and reading.
  • Knowledge of HIS and LIS.
  • Assorted laboratory analyzers and equipment appropriate to scope of position and dependent upon current technology.

  • PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD A TRAVELER TO THIS ASSIGNMENT WHO WOULD LIKE TO WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANOTHER PERM PLACEMENT OR TRAVEL ASSIGNMENT. PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD A TRAVELER TO ANY NEED ON MY DESK WHO IS GOING TO REQUEST SCHEDULE ACCOMMODATIONS (Block scheduling, 10/12hr shifts, etc).
  • 3 years current experience in approved laboratory
  • Bachelor degree in Medical Technology or related science required
  • Previous travel experience preferred
  • ASPC (Cytometry, SCYM required) or ICCE required - Equivalent certs are not accepted - An ASCP/Cytotechnologist will not be accepted without the SCYM or ICCE Test
  • Must have ability and education to perform high-complexity laboratory testing
  • Traveler candidate must have their own vehicle. This is a firm requirement.
