Substitute Early Childhood Teacher

Summary
General Position DescriptionOn an on-call basis, substitute as a teacher in the preschool or toddler classrooms when primary staff is sick or otherwise unavailable. Substitute Teachers support our classroom teachers in ensuring a safe and engaging classroom environment where children and families feel welcome. The Substitute Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively collaborate with other staff, and resolve family concerns.
This position reports to the classroom Teacher.
Employment Type
- On-call, part day or full day. Full day shifts are typically 9 hour days with 1 hour lunch. Both scheduled and emergency shifts available.

Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Actively engage respectfully with children, families, and staff.
- Caregiving activities such as hand washing, toileting/diapering, or changing clothes.
- With rest of staff, work to create and maintain a responsive and caring school community
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
Requirements
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Strong oral communication skills and basic computer skills.
- Resiliency and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
- Must clear full background check and must pass TB test.
- Child Care Basics (30 hours Stars), First Aid/CPR, BBP, and Food Handlers Permit (We can help you with this).
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Physical Requirements
- Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
- Must be able to see and hear a child in distress up to 50 feet away.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. repeatedly during the course of each day.
- Must be able to sit on the floor with children and be able to get up quickly.
Nice To Haves
- Professional child care experience valued.
- Associates or Bachelor Degree with ECE credits valued.
