Position Purpose:

The Associate Dental Director-Antelope Valley reports directly to the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) and oversees all professional dental services at JWCH’s Antelope Valley region dental clinics. This role ensures compliance with Dental Department/Oral Health Services policies, procedures, and protocols. Key responsibilities include leading the clinical dental team, working closely with the CDO, Lead Dentists, Dental Providers, Dental Managers, and Clinic Administrators.

The Associate Dental Director also supports the strategic direction of the dental program, focusing on improving dental disease management, clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and outcomes research. Key priorities include collaborating with the CDO on strategic planning, program expansion, process and quality improvement, and managing relationships with dental providers and staff.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  1. Assists the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) and Leadership team with strategic planning for Dental Services in the Antelope Valley region.
  2. Plays a crucial role in implementing strategic goals and achieving them at both departmental and clinical levels.
  3. Evaluates and manages provider schedules and operational reports to ensure alignment with organizational goals for quality dental care, patient access, and productivity.
  4. Monitors patient scheduling to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  5. Utilizes operational and clinical audit results to lead initiatives for clinical systems improvements, health information technology innovations, and new care delivery methods.
  6. Collaborates with the Regional Dental Manager, Clinic Dental Managers, and Lead Dentists in Antelope Valley to conduct regular team meetings focused on quality improvement in patient care, provider and staff education, and performance management.
  7. Supervises the Regional Dental Manager, Clinic Dental Managers, Lead Dentists, Dental Providers, and support staff, including oversight of Dental Student Externship programs and AEGD Residents.
  8. Supports clinical goals set by the CDO and provides mentoring, coaching, and training to meet organizational objectives.
  9. Conducts peer chart audits and performance evaluations for Lead Dentists and other dental providers as needed.
  10. Assists in the training and orientation of Dental Providers, externs, and residents.
  11. Aids the CDO in the recruitment and retention of Dental Providers and support staff.
  12. Reviews and approves timecards, time off requests, and reimbursements for Dental Managers and Lead Dentists.
  13. Leads monthly clinic meetings in collaboration with Dental Managers and Lead Dentists.
  14. Approves dental supply and equipment orders for the Antelope Valley region and coordinates repair scheduling as authorized by the CDO.
  15. Supports federal, state, and local audits and compliance with Ryan White Oral Health Services contract requirements.
  16. Collaborates with the Grants Department to identify potential grant opportunities and work with grant writers on applications, budgets, and work plans for expanding oral health services.
  17. Develops and maintains relationships with academic institutions for mutually beneficial collaborations.
  18. Contributes to the development of marketing and educational materials for client-focused oral/dental disease management programs.
  19. Represents the organization at local and national meetings as requested by the CDO.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluates individuals seeking dental care, diagnoses their conditions, and prescribes and administers appropriate treatments or directs others to do so, following approved clinical protocols and guidelines. Refers patients to specialists when necessary.
  2. Accurately records patient interactions, including diagnosis, treatment, and care details in the dental record. Completes patient referrals and required documentation as mandated by the organization.
  3. Educates patients on the relationship between oral health and overall health, promoting disease prevention and general oral health.
  4. Keeps skills and knowledge current through continuing education and professional development.
  5. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and clinic regulations and protocols, including those related to workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
  6. Demonstrates expertise in infection control and sterile techniques, overseeing clinic compliance with relevant guidelines and protocols.
  7. Collaborates effectively with support staff, providing clear instructions and expectations.
  8. Conducts oral screenings to manage scheduling gaps, such as patient no-shows.
  9. Handles difficult patients with professionalism, utilizing strong interpersonal skills and influence.
  10. Applies professional judgment in service delivery, adhering to organizational policies and dental standards.
  11. Participates in community health fairs as needed.

Requirements:

  1. Graduated from an accredited Dental School (DDS or DMD)
  2. Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of California
  3. Current DEA Certificate
  4. Current CPR/BLS from Americans Heart Association
  5. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  6. Minimum 2-3 years of management experience
  7. Must maintain CDE as required for certification renewals
  8. Medicaid NPI number
  9. Strong skills in strategic planning, quality improvement, and team collaboration.
  10. Proven ability to manage operational and clinical aspects effectively.

Preferred:

  1. An advanced degree in management (MBA, MPH), or equivalent education/certification is preferred.
  2. Minimum 7 years clinical experience preferred
  3. Experience with Ryan White program preferred
  4. Experience with Next-Gen and/or Epic preferred

The National Health Service Corp may be accepting applications Loan Repayment Program awards. The program is open to licensed primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavior health providers who are employed or have accepted an offer of employment at an NHSC-approved site. Awardees receive up to $50,000 in exchange for two years of service if they practice in a HPSA of 14 above (Tier I). Awardees can also receive up to $30,0000 in exchange for two years of service if they practice in a HPSA of 13 and below (Tier II).
