POSITION SUMMARY
Works directly with IT Manager to install and maintain Central Office Equipment on a regular basis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Installs and maintains central office cable system and other equipment.
- Troubleshoots CO equipment issues with Supervisor.
- Identifies fiber counts for splicing and adds new lines of service as directed by supervisor.
- Prepares splicing fiber at protectors/pedestals and making cross connects at splitter cabinets and Central Office.
- Transfers service from one cable or terminal to another for hot cuts.
- Takes On-Call on a rotating basis and responds to outages.
- Engages in regular and periodic reviews with supervisor. Accepts direction with positive attitude.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Company operating policies, procedures, products, and services.
- Knowledge and understanding of computer technology and its associated lingo.
- Knowledge of diagnostic testing software and troubleshooting procedures.
- Knowledge of basic electrical and electronic circuitry.
- Knowledge of Company safety policies and procedures
- Knowledge of fiber optic and copper color codes
- Knowledge of cable/fiber testing equipment
- Skill in operating personal computer and related software
- Skill in analytical thinking and problem solving
- Skill in operating carious hand tools and testing equipment
- Ability to distinguish colors
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Ability to evaluate, test and repair sophisticated equipment
- Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to function effectively as a team player.
- Ability to kneel, crawl, and stoop well enough to test and repair equipment in cramped areas
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret computer reports and printouts
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple work assignments
- Ability to complete work accurately under time constraints and deadlines
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends and overnight hours as needed.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Oklahoma/Texas driver's license
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma plus one to three years of experience in telecommunication.
