Diving Instructor

GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Associate Diving Director, assist in the organization, development, and
management of the non-competitive age group diving team. Communicate effectively with the YMCA staff
and members.
KNOW-HOW
First Aid, CPR, and U. S. Diving experience recommended. Ability to communicate effectively and
professionally with staff and members is important.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
• 2-6 hours per week: coaching and program work.
• Maintain CPR / First Aid
• Maintain a coaching role for Level 1-3 program.
• Fill in for Levels 4-9 on an as need basis.
• Assist in the promotion and marketing of the age group Whirlwind Diving Team.
• Supervise and safely coach participants during class.
• Assist in overall planning of workouts, training, and conditioning within the program.
• Aid in the recruitment of future athletes at the Fairfield County Swim League and the Westchester
Championships.
• Report any accidents or incidents to director as they occur.
• Inventory equipment daily for safety concerns.
• Be a role model and demonstrate the YMCA Four Core Values of Honesty, Responsibility, Respect,
and Caring.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to climb, balance, kneel, reach,
stand, walk, lift, talk, hear, swim, and sit.
The incumbent must also regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds while performing their job functions.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/far vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
the ability to adjust focus.
Acute hearing is essential to this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, this individual maybe occasionally exposed to a wet and/or humid
environment.
In this position, this person will not be frequently required to work in outside weather conditions.
EFFECT ON END RESULT
Assist in the organization, promotion, and development of an efficient and effective diving team program to
encourage enjoyable youth participation and retention.
All participants will have fun and enjoy the sport of Gymnastics and Diving.
All participants will get exposure to the YMCA Core Values.
