Job Developer

The Bezos Foundation Workforce Support Program at BronxWorks seeks to hire 1 full-time Job Developer. The selected candidate will work in coordination with two departments; Workforce Development and Homelessness Prevention & Access to Benefits; and will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

The candidate will play a key role to work as part of a dedicated team to provide the workforce programming and engagement to the STEHP families in helping families after they are housed gain professional development skills and career readiness, including employment opportunities, so they can rebuild their lives.

The ideal candidate should be empathetic, and understanding to the needs of the targeted population that consists of people of different backgrounds. Work to create a positive, yet productive working relationship with clients served by the program. He/she must be a self-starter committed to the mission, values, beliefs of BronxWorks.

Program Specific Responsibilities

• Along with case manager, assess clients’ vocational and educational needs, aptitudes and interests through interviews and testing. ·
• Develop with the client, a contract of mutually agreed goals and objectives to be accomplished within an agreed upon timetable. ·
• Develop and maintain placement and follow-up as appropriate after assessment and counseling. ·
• Customer service oriented, compassionate, ability to work with different demographics. ·
• Discuss general expectations of career readiness with STEPH families and guide survivors how to prepare for career training and employment success ·
• Coaches and prepares program participant for interview and entry into the workforce. Including, outline and explain the processes of the resources and employment and training opportunities ·
• Establishes and maintains working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities. ·
• Evaluates individual’s backgrounds, skills, and interest and matches to potential job openings or training programs. ·
• In collaboration with case manager, show clients demonstrated progress toward multiple short-term outcomes measured at program completion, including gains in using office technology, improved professional development skills and career readiness; increased confidence in career outlook, and improved self-esteem. ·
• Coordinating with WFD/STEHP staff to ensure that participants are appropriately prepared for interview opportunities (i.e., proper work attire ·
• Documenting program work by entering job development and participant data into all required database in a timely basis and reporting outcomes and challenges to all appropriate Directors. ·
• Attend individual case supervision, group supervision, monthly case conferences, and staff meetings, as required ·
• Follow-up with employers and clients to promote retention, work supports(i.e., financial counseling, tax prep services, etc.) ; and additional job orders.

Qualifications

• (2) years of relevant training and experience, including experience working with victims of domestic violence in lieu of a bachelor’s degree; or bachelor’s degree in health or human services. ·
• Two (2) years of crisis counseling or advocacy experience preferred in a residential shelter for victims of domestic violence, and experience and demonstrated skills and outcomes in Job Development including tracking retention one-year after placement. ·
• Must possess a demonstrated ability in delivering client services including communication and listening skills, understanding of human interaction and personality development, the ability to write and record case documentation, and demonstrated skills in individual coaching. ·
• Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities including individuals whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, etc. ·
• Familiarity with the neighborhoods and population of Bronx County is a plus ·
• Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential. Confident, honest, and reliable ·
• Ability to organize workload and work effectively and produce measurable results with minimal supervision. ·
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be adaptable to changing needs of the program ·
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills ·
• Must be computer-literate and must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Must be highly knowledgeable about the methods of job development, client training, placement, and retention ·
• Skilled in organizing workshops, connecting to training sessions with community partners and programs, with a proven history of meeting outcomes ·
• Willingness to learn, and a proven or developing commitment to working with victims of domestic violence in a sensitive and non-judgmental way ·
• Must have strong relationship with employer partners ·
• Able to know what employers are looking for and how to appeal to employers ·
• Responsible to prepare reports, documentation, presentations, and utilize databases. ·
• Must have ability to be flexible of schedule as needed. May be required to travel to sites, events; and other various locations across the Bronx ·
