BMC is a local, independent, and physician-owned medical group with over 20 primary and specialty care departments, 90 providers, and 325+ clinical and support professionals. Since our founding by 10 physicians in 1949, we have grown and evolved to meet the needs of Boulder County and beyond.

We currently have clinics located in Boulder (2 locations), Louisville, Longmont, and Erie.

Summary:

Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is seeking candidates who are interested in starting a career in healthcare to join our team as a Healthcare Intern This position is not benefit eligible working 16 hours per week. MUST be available Tuesdays & Thursdays all day 8am-5pm.

Job Duties:

  • Manages incoming medical records via fax, including sorting, labeling, checking for duplication and scanning into electronic health records.
  • Manages incoming electronic medical records including sorting, labeling, and categorizing, as appropriate.
  • Enters discrete data from incoming faxed and electronic medical records into the electronic medical records to ensure easy visibility for providers and accurate data for quality measures.
  • Reviews records as part of workflow to update diagnostic testing histories for additional tests, as appropriate.
  • Assists care team and administration in development and improvement of clinic workflows to better manage documentation and patient records, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team to include the members of the interdisciplinary care team, the physicians in the clinic, IT and Care Management.
  • Maintains confidential information regarding the health of plan participant. Stays abreast of and maintains adherence to federal and state regulations regarding confidentiality of private health information as it relates to HIPAA.
  • Documents activities in appropriate module database (NextGen, etc.) to ensure proper metric and quality tracking.
  • Prepares examination/treatment rooms for provider's use by ensuring that appropriate supplies, equipment, and instruments are available and ready on a daily/patient appointment basis. Chaperones as needed and/or instructs the patient in preparation for the provider's examination and/or specific treatment.
  • Maintains examination/treatment rooms and lab areas in a neat and orderly manner. Orders supplies when stock is running low and ensures all expired items are removed and properly disposed of in accordance with BMC protocol. Dirty laundry, biohazard should be taken to the proper place at the end of each business day and sharps containers need to be removed when at fill line. Use of proper cleaning procedures between patients and at the end of the day is required.
  • Reviews voicemails and routes or tasks questions to responsible party.
  • Assists with other office duties such as scrubbing, prepping, packaging instruments for sterilization.
  • Vaccine reconciliation within the EMR.
  • Verifies receipt of lab and diagnostic imaging results - send on to MA for further evaluation.
  • Assist MA with other department-specific tasks as assigned.


  • Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to support the development of exceptional working relationships with patients, their dependents and healthcare providers.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of tasks that require a degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Must have a proven commitment to customers that continually focuses on improvement and enhancement to the service delivery process.
  • Must possess analytical and computer skills with proficiency in computer such as MS Office products.

Education:

  • Must be a senior enrolled in a healthcare program within a higher education facility.

Previous Experience:

  • Previous experience with medical terminology, preferred.

Salary:

  • $14.42/hour
This position will be posted for a minimum of three days, subsequently until filled.
