SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of exhibits and exhibit components throughout the museum utilizing skills in mechanical, electro-mechanical, and woodworking areas. Perform daily rounds of exhibit areas and exhibit components to ensure they are working properly and provide on-the-spot repairs when damage is found and report all existing or potential problems. Assists senior technicians with the installation of lighting and power as well as upkeep and repairs of temporary exhibits. Assist other technicians in the performance of their duties, including inspection rounds, exhibit installations, lighting, and other tasks as needed.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repair specific exhibit components as assigned by the manager or supervisor by identifying problems, finding solutions to the problems, and expediently making necessary repairs to ensure a quality museum experience for our visitors.

  • Assist senior technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of exhibit components and related equipment throughout the museum to ensure consistent operation of exhibits.

  • Prepare the museum for daily operations by turning on the required power and inspecting exhibit halls in the assigned area. Perform daily rounds of exhibit areas and exhibit components provide on-the-spot repairs when damage is found and report all existing or potential problems to ensure they are working properly.

  • Maintain exhibit components by cleaning, performing preventive maintenance and repairs as needed, and reporting major repairs and damages to the manager or supervisor to ensure a quality visitor experience.

  • Recommend solutions to ongoing maintenance problems to exhibit components to supervisor or manager and implement changes with approval to reduce downtime of exhibit components.

  • Prepare exhibit hall space for new exhibits by moving or removing components in an area designated to accommodate renovations.

  • Install exhibits, both permanent and temporary, by providing lighting, power requirements, upkeep, and maintenance to ensure components are ready and operational by set deadlines.

  • Performs duties consistent with established safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment for coworkers and oneself.

  • Responsible for maintaining the level of expertise in relevant technical fields and developing the skills to apply them in the necessary situations.

  • Provide services for a wide variety of inter-departmental requests for support, which include, but are not limited to, installation of signage, installation of seasonal decoration, assistance to museum collections, and assistance for all events by providing support to other departments to accomplish their goals.

  • Responsible for responding to emergency incidents on the property that may be a threat to the safety of staff, guests, and property. Emergency incidents include but are not limited to bomb threats, fire alarms, natural disasters, power or equipment failure, building evacuations, and other crises as defined in the Museum's Emergency Preparedness and Management Plan (EPAMP) to provide a safe, orderly evacuation of the premises.


WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is Full-Time, 40 or more hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday


REPORTS TO:

Manager, Exhibit Maintenance


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post high school coursework, technical degree, associate's degree, business or vocational certificate.
  • 3 or more years of general maintenance - mechanical and fabrication - experience.
  • Demonstrate ability to use hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical fundamentals and the ability to trace and correct faults in systems by utilizing test equipment
  • An understanding of mechanical and physical principles and the ability to apply them in maintenance and repair situations.
  • Ability to read plans and block diagrams.


STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly), $22.26 an hour
