Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Audio Visual Technician is responsible for meeting the audio visual needs of campus events, which are held in a variety of locations around campus, including Holmes Auditorium. The Audio Visual (AV) Technician performs a variety of duties related to events and audio visual support for the campus community. 

Salary/Rate: $22.00-$25.00 per hour, 40 hours per week

Essential Functions:
  • Provide AV service at campus events, including but not limited to Commencement, conferences, meetings, open house, alumni weekend, concerts, student events, and classes
  • This position leads a team of student workers. The student workers assist with setup and service of campus events and perform routine checks of equipment in classrooms and select event spaces
  • Supervise up to 10 student workers. Hire and train students, create schedules, delegate responsibilities, and address performance issues as necessary
  • Nights and weekends are required, as many events take place at night and/or on weekends; will vary throughout the semester
  • Set up and operate equipment including microphones, sound systems, lighting, projectors, and accessories
  • Maintain the event schedule for Holmes Auditorium; work with users as they request AV assistance
  • Work with campus users to provide a needs-assessment for each event to determine appropriate equipment and support
  • Work with an outside vendor to ensure the audio visual success of AU's annual Commencement Ceremony
  • Work with faculty and administrators to identify and meet audio-visual needs for classes and events in Holmes Auditorium and in a variety of campus locations
  • Maintain and repair equipment; contact external vendors as needed
  • Work with Learning Spaces Technician to install and adjust AV equipment in classrooms
  • Purchase equipment and supplies, and work with contracted vendors
  • Work with end users and members of ITS (or other divisions as needed) to provide support when events require a synchronous (Zoom or streaming) component
  • Educate end users on the proper use of AV equipment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Instructional Technology & Virtual Education Support

  • Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people's lives
  • Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students
  • Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience
  • Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment
  • Participates in all required assigned training, including safety training and will comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications-Education & Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • A high school diploma/ GED is required; an Associate's degree is preferred
  • Two years work experience in the audio visual or technology field are required
  • Customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and address stressful situations
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing

Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals.
