The General Foreman – Remelt Shop will balance supervisorial, administrative and technical duties for compliance with budgetary and resource requirements while overseeing the coordination of operations and maintenance activities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Specific primary responsibilities are defined by the following, but not limited to;

  • Day to day leader of the remelt area, with support to the Melt Shop Manager as required

  • Lead decision making process within the Remelt area on day to day matters
  • Responsible for area safety culture and metrics including, but not limited to;
    • Requiring staff to maintain 5S standards and general orderliness
    • Ensuring compliance with Safety & Health, Environmental
    • Enhancing safety and morale by identifying and reducing hazards
  • Ensure compliance to Quality Policies through adherence to standardized processes & practices
  • Foster a culture of a sense of urgency while also ensuring attention to detail in all processes in the remelt area
  • Manage, control and coordinate manpower schedules and work assignments
  • Monitor productivity, cost and overall equipment effectiveness
  • Develop assigned supervisor(s) management skills while increasing their working knowledge of remelting principles
  • Lead, motivate, manage, hourly staff and assigned maintenance personnel
  • Ensure availability of resources and supplies required to support Operations
  • Plan, execute and monitor work including a 7 day forecast horizon, and 72 hour detailed analysis ensuring adherence to ‘Late to Plan’ requirements
  • Improve process consistency by:
    • Reviewing process charts and data for deviations, providing recommendations as to disposition to Technical Department
    • Implement changes to existing procedures to standardize and improve department work instructions
    • Develop and document per protocol recommendations to improve quality, including standard practices and melt profiles.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) projects to improve productivity, increase yield and/or eliminate non-value added work
  • Support cross functional improvement efforts by collaborating with Technical, Engineering, and Maintenance Departments

Qualifications: Strong leadership and problem-solving skills. Good interpersonal communication skills; ability to plan, coordinate, organize, prioritize, and redirect activities to meet goals. Strong detail orientation. Ability to effectively utilize contemporary software and office equipment.Education and Experience:
  • 10+ Years experience in an industrial steel making environment
  • Extensive knowledge of ESR and VAR Operations

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Ability to safely move around a heavy industrial plant environment up to 12 hours per day
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours as required, and maintain job performance standards
