Whitaker Construction, founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.


JOB SUMMARY:

Preconstruction Tech is responsible for providing accurate and thorough quantity takeoffs with a deadline.


RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:

 

Including but not limited to the list below.

  • Create accurate and thorough quantity takeoffs using PDF, CAD, & XML files
  • Performs calculations and designs for alignments, drainage, structures, roadway modeling, and site modeling.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine earthwork quantities and required materials
  • Perform and assist with Quality Control on data calculated.
  • Find potential issues ahead of time and be able to problem solve
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Must promote a culture of safety and awareness by practicing and enforcing safe work procedures
  • Be willing to teach and train new employees.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. This position is not an entry level job.
  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.)
  • A minimum of 5 years of TBC, AGTEK and Rock Pile completing site, corridor, and MSE Wall takeoffs and models.
  • Familiar with a wide variety of Heavy Highway practices and principles
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency is Microsoft Office Suite
  • Fluent knowledge of Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Agtek, and 3D Machine Control
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Possess strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Applicants must possess a valid U.S. driver's license. and have reliable transportation to get to and from work. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards
  • Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, and the operation of equipment
