Certified Athletic Trainer

Job Summary:

Bledsoe County Schools, located in the beautiful Sequatchie Valley, seeks an Athletic Trainer. Successful applicants will enjoy working with adolescents, have a love of sports and athletes, and possess a strong background and work ethic. The athletes in grades 6-12 are required to participate in a range of competitive athletic and other afternoon activities. These include Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country and Cheer.

This position is being made available through support from the Korey Stringer Institute innovATe project and will be a 10 month contract. Competitive salary dependent upon experience and generous benefits are available.

The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes. The primary focus is on injury and illness prevention, clinical evaluations, emergency care and treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries. The ATC plays a crucial role in promoting the overall health and well-being of student-athletes within the educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Injury Prevention and Risk Management:

- Develop and implement effective injury prevention programs.

- Conduct and coordinate pre-season screenings, assessments and physicals.

- Identify potential risks and hazards related to athletic activities.

  1. Athletic Injury Assessment:

- Evaluate and assess injuries sustained during athletic events or practices.

- Provide immediate care and first aid.

- Determine the nature and extent of injuries.

  1. Treatment and Rehabilitation:

- Design and implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.

- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, such as physicians and physical therapists.

- Monitor and adjust rehabilitation plans to ensure optimal recovery.

  1. Emergency Care:

- Provide appropriate medical care for all student athletes at Bledsoe County and any visiting student athletes during competitions.

- Be prepared to respond to and manage emergency situations, administer first aid, CPR, and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) when necessary.

- Work with Coordinated School Health to provide CPR training to coaches.

  1. Educational Outreach:

- Educate coaches, athletes, parents and community on injury prevention strategies, recognition and treatment.

- Provide information on proper nutrition, hydration, and fitness.

- Conduct workshops on topics related to sports medicine and athletic health.

- Complete a virtual orientation with Korey Stringer Institute Staff before the official start date with Bledsoe County Schools.

  1. Documentation and Record Keeping:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.

- Communicate effectively with coaches, parents, and healthcare professionals regarding athlete health.

- Create Emergency Action Plans for all appropriate venues and coordinate annual rehearsal of emergency action plans.

- Record and keep inventory of all athletic training room supplies and resources.

  1. Collaboration and Communication:

- Work closely with coaches to ensure a coordinated approach to athlete care.

- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.

- Communicate effectively and promote a welcome environment for student athletes, coaches, parents and school administrators through a high-level of professionalism.

  1. Compliance with Policies and Regulations:

- Stay informed about and ensure compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and protocols.

- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending professional development workshops and reviewing professional publications and latest research.

- Maintain and protect patient personal information according to HIPAA standards.

- Adhere to ethical and legal standards in athletic training.

Qualifications:

- Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers.

- TN State licensure as required by applicable regulations.

- CPR and AED certification, Instructor preferred but not required.

Skills and Competencies:

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.

- Proficient in injury assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques.

- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in athletic training.

- Effective organizational and time-management skills.

- Candidates must clear a satisfactory background check.

Working Conditions:

The Certified Athletic Trainer will work in both indoor and outdoor environments, attending practices and athletic events. Evening and weekend hours may be required during the sports season.
